This article explains how to create and manage templates. Templates help you save time when building messages you send often, and they support consistency in your content across campaigns and users. Templates can be shared with your sub accounts. They can also be set as the default content of an SMS, which can be particularly useful if you want to create a default message signature.
Important - only users with Advanced or Administrator access can create and manage templates, Basic user account permissions won't allow you to manage this feature. Please contact your account administrator for assistance if your access level needs to be adjusted.
Creating new templates
Depending on your account, you can create two types of templates: standard or restricted. Restricted templates are used to control messages sent by users with Basic access only. For this exercise, we will focus on standard templates.
-
Navigate to Templates > SMS > and then choose from New template or New restricted template.
Name your template.
Write your content.
You can add personalization by selecting a field from the Personalisation dropdown. This shows the fields available in the contact profiles of saved contacts. You can also add other contact fields to match an imported database you plan to use. Make sure the field names in your database match the field names in your template.
The preview on the right shows how your message will appear. Personalised contact fields will not populate with data because the template is not connected to any contact data at this stage.
When you are ready, select Save in the bottom right corner. Your template will then appear in the Templates list.
Editing & deleting templates
You can Edit or Delete a template at any time by navigating to Templates - SMS clicking the more options icon and selecting the required action:
Important:
- When deleting or editing a template, be aware that the change will be reflected on any sub accounts it has been shared with.
- Templates cannot be deleted if they are due to be sent in a scheduled campaign. The campaign would first need to be unscheduled or sent, and then the template can be deleted.
